Papermaker bowler rolls along to state

Shelby Chartrand will crash pins with the best bowlers in the state Friday, at Tacoma Narrows Plaza Bowl. The 14-year-old Camas High School freshman finished in seventh place at the 4A district tournament Jan. 30, at Allen's Crosley Lanes in Vancouver. She rolled games of 170, 174 and 183 for a 527 series. "This is a really big opportunity," Chartrand said. "Basically, what I did was have fun and bowl my game like it's just a Saturday. It actually felt nice." Camas finished in fifth place at districts with a combined total of 3,424 points. Battle Ground won the six-team scramble with 4,104 points.

WaferTech unveiled its $1.6 million energy conservation project on Thursday. Industry executives, and local and regional elected officials were on hand to mark the occasion including (left to right) Camas Mayor Scott Higgins, 18th District State Sen. WaferTech’s new cooling system saves energy, dollars

On Thursday WaferTech unveiled a new $1.6 million, energy efficient cooling system at its Camas manufacturing facility. According to President KC Hsu, the company now has a solid hold on bragging rights for producing the lowest carbon footprint of any semi-conductor manufacturer in the world today. "Saving energy and being good environmental stewards is vital for TSMC and WaferTech," Hsu said during a ceremony and luncheon event attended by local political and business officials, and staff from government agencies involved in the endeavor.

Washougal Council will vote on EMS funding option

The Washougal City Council is expected to vote next week on an option to have the Washougal Fire Department operate under a "functional operational consolidation" with the Camas Fire Department on a trial basis. According to information provided during the Washougal council workshop last night, city staff members are recommending "option 4" for a short term solution while additional analysis occurs for a long term fix.

Washougal council approves public works bonds

Many water, sewer and storm water projects in Washougal are expected to be paid for with bonds. City council members approved the issuance of water and sewer revenue bonds in the amount of $16.1 million, during their April 18 meeting. The vote was 6 to 1, with Michael Delavar voting against it.
