Upcoming events in Camas-Washougal
From theater and music to Turkey carnivals and Polaroids with Santa, there is always a festival, event, concert or other activity going on for the entertainment of Camas and Washougal residents.
Some dates and times of the events are tentative and could change. The following listings are just a small sampling of goings on in the area. For more information, contact the organizations listed.
In addition, Camas Parks and Recreation (834-5307), East County Community Education (954-3040) and the Jack, Will and Rob Boys and Girls Club (817-9966) offer classes for a multitude of age groups and interests.
March 2008
The Washougal High School Drama Department presents Steven Sondheim's "Into the Woods," a show that runs March 6, 7, 8 and 14, at 7 p.m., and March 15, at 1 and 7 p.m., at the Washburn Performing Arts Center, at 1201 39th St. For ticket information, call 954-3107.
During the Blue Note Café, the Washburn Performing Arts Center is transformed into a cozy coffee shop with desserts, hot and cold drinks, and musical entertainment from Washougal High School students and staff. A Washougal High School band concert will be held Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m., in the Washburn Performing Arts Center, at 1201 39th St. For more information, call 953-3100.
The Nighttime Egg Hunt for once encourages kids to come out after dark, with flashlights, the evening before Easter, Saturday, March 22, at 9 p.m., to search for candy- and prize-filled plastic eggs. For children from ages 10 to 12, the event is at Crown Park, at 15th Avenue and Everett Street.
The Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m., at Hathaway Park, next to Hathaway Elementary School at 630 24th St., Washougal. Separate hunts will be held for children in various age groups, from barely walking to 12 years old. The Easter bunny will be on hand for photo opportunities, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. The Washougal Eagles 4390 sponsors this event annually.
The Easter Day Hunt and Bonnet and Hat Contest on Easter Sunday, March 23, at 1:30 p.m., is geared for children aged 2 to 9. Little ones wear cute little hats and get grass-stains on their knees during the plastic egg search. The event is held at Crown Park, at 15th Avenue and Everett Street.
As part of the 2007-08 Camas Performing Arts Series concerts, Marie-Andree Ostiguy will perform Saturday, March 29, at 7 p.m., at the Garfield Performing Arts Center, at 14th Avenue and Garfield Street, in Camas. Each First Friday of the month, downtown Camas rolls out the red carpet for local artists and musicians when they take their craft to the street (during the summer) or to local businesses (in the bad weather months) from 5 to 8 p.m. Downtown merchants also offer themed events and special deals. This month, on April 4, attendees can see original art by local residents.

The fifth season of the Washougal Farmer's Market will be held each Saturday, May 10 through Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Previously held in the Pendleton Woolen Mills parking lot, this year the farmer's market site will be at the new Reflection Plaza, located at Main Street and Pendleton Way in the downtown area. Market vendors will be selling handmade jewelry, artwork, soaps and lotions, as well as flowers and produce. For more information, contact Jinger Jacobson at 606-4849.

Camtown Youth Festival is a testament to how cool it can be when the city works with local students to create an event. This one rates high on the kid-approval ratings. When it descends on Crown Park Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the festival comes equipped with inflatable games, youth performers, arts, crafts, food and more. The Boo Bash welcomes children to trick-or-treat in historic downtown Camas Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m., on Northeast Fourth Avenue. Costumes are welcome, but not required, and all participating businesses will post signs in their windows.
Family Halloween Night is a fun-filled carnival with games and prizes designed for children ages 12 and younger, accompanied by a parent. Dates, times and location are yet-to-be-determined. The event is free with a donation of two cans of food or one new, packaged toy to benefit the Inter-Faith Treasure House. |
