Ballots for school construction bond are due by May 20
Ballots can be dropped off locally on Election Day
Ballots are due next Tuesday for the May 20 Clark County Special Election that includes a $46.6 million capital projects bond for the Washougal School District.
Funds generated from the bond will pay for a new kindergarten through eighth-grade school on the Jemtegaard Middle School property, covered play areas at Cape Horn-Skye, Gause and Hathaway elementary schools, and improved air quality systems at Cape Horn-Skye, Gause, Hathaway and Canyon Creek Middle School. It would also fund expansion and renovation at the Washougal School District office warehouse and maintenance storage facilities and replacement of the Washougal High School gym floor and improvements at Fishback Stadium.
According to the district's enrollment projections, space will be needed at all levels by 2013 -- the district is expected to grow by 550 elementary-age students, 407 sixth- through eighth-graders, and 233 high school-age students.
The district is currently home to approximately 3,000 students.
If approved by voters, the bond will be supplemented with $8.2 million in state matching funds for which the district is eligible.
