WHS vocalists qualify for competition
Several Washougal High School vocalists competed in the regional solo and ensemble contest Saturday, Feb. 27.
"Everyone did so well, and represented our school with pride and professionalism," choir teacher Jen Mahorney said.
State qualifiers are Steven Goolsby (tenor); Luke Block (first alternate, baritone); James Maguire (second alternate, baritone). Qualifying in the men's large ensemble are Steven Goolsby, Austin Fuller, Jared Scheel, Roman Vinsonhaler, Braden Coe, Derek Devllin, Luke Block, Jesse White, Don Gabel and James Maguire (second alternate).
The WHS X-Tet Choir and Taylor Merritt (soprano) also earned superior rating for their performance.
Cape-Horn names Super Citizens
Cape-Horn Skye Elementary School named its February Super Citizens. They include: Johan Miller, Julianne Baker, Karleigh Sawyer, Rylin Chambers, Talon Mitchell, Derek Carter, Caitlyn Johnson, Rayleigh Skinner, Ruben Voytenko, Thomas Layne, Andrew Seitz, Lauren Snedeker, Olivia Dinnel, Skylar Bea, Judson Mansfield, Spencer Miller, Noah Ault, Joshua Carlson, Emma Carroll, Nicholas Klopman, Brevan Bea, Kalie Howard, Rachel McDonald, Troy Prince, Tommy Mills, Ryan Johnson, Walker Layne, Elura Erickson, Carter Rodgers, Lucas Friedrich, Carson Adams, Kassidy Baldwin, Tyler Richard, Jett Harry, Trevor Bently, Trevor Rupe, Emilee Smart, Spencer Bradley, Eric Ault, Levi McDonald, Amber Davis, Booklyn Wolfe and Anna Dumitrash.
Scouts host Saturday workshops
Cub Scout Pack 314 and Boy Scout Troop 314 are hosting two workshops at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 20. These are geared for scouts and siblings at least 10 years old.
The two workshops are emergency preparedness and wilderness first-aid. The cost is $5 per person, per workshop.
The workshops will be held at American Legion Post 122, 10221 Washougal River Rd. The doors open at 8:45 a.m., with the emergency preparedness workshop starting at 9 a.m.
Wilderness first-aid begins at 12:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch, snacks, a notebook and paper.
Seating is limited. Reserve a spot by calling Lisa at 835-1929.
Scouts donate 335 books
A book drive at Helen Baller Elementary School has netted 335 books for children in need.
A local Boy Scout troop and students at the school coordinated the effort. The donation will provide a personal bundle of books from the Children's Book Bank in Portland for children who could not otherwise afford them.
Camas woman makes dean's list
Molly R. Adamson of Camas was named to the Gonzaga University President's List for fall semester 2009. Students must earn at least a 3.7 GPA to be named to the list.
CHS students are National Merit finalists
Four Camas High School seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship finalists.
Only 15,000 seniors nationwide earned this distinction. The students are Devynne Barrett, Josey Marshall, Natalie Stone and Jacob Marsh.
