Fall carnival set at Mt. Pleasant School

Mount Pleasant School’s Parent-Teacher Club will host its annual fall carnival from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in costumes for an evening of games, prizes, a cakewalk, raffles, haunted house and food. This event is the club’s biggest fundraiser and all proceeds benefit the students directly. Call the school at 835-3371 for more information.

Post high school options fair coming

Washougal High School will host a post-high school options fair from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. There will be more than 36 colleges, vocational-technical schools, apprenticeship programs and military representatives available to speak with students and parents.

There will also be breakout sessions to help students understand the process of applying to schools, filling out financial aid and scholarship applications, and essay writing.

CHS to host college, career options night

Camas High School will host its second annual college and career options night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the CHS gym, 26900 S.E. 15th St. Representatives from two- and four-year private and public colleges, technical schools and the military will be available to meet with students and parents to provide information about their institutions and programs.

Students in all grade levels may attend.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., college and program representatives are in the gym for an informal fair. From 5:30 to 6 p.m., there is a college planning 101 workshop in the CHS Theatre, followed by PSAT, SAT and ACT testing information from 6 to 6:30 p.m. From 6:30 to 7 p.m., there will be a workshop titled, “How to get more bang for your buck: Dispelling the myths about private and independent college affordability.”

Lastly, there will be three breakout sessions, from 7:10 to 7:30 p.m., 7:35 to 8:05 p.m. and 8:10 to 8:35 p.m. These will have assigned classrooms where attendees can speak to representatives in a quieter environment.

Parents and students can see a list of schools and programs that will be at the event on the Camas High School Web site’s counseling and career center newsletter link.

Author coming to Camas Library

Children and teen author Wendelin Van Draanen is coming to the Camas Public Library at 7 p.m. Monday. Her work includes the Shredderman series, Sammy Keyes series, The Gecko & Sticky series, Flipped and Confessions of a Serial Kisser.

Draanen will share where she gets her ideas and what it’s like working as a professional author.

There will be a book signing afterward.

CYT to perform ‘Les Miserables’

Christian Youth Theater, which includes several performers from Camas and Washougal, will host “Les Miserables,” at Fort Vancouver High School, 5700 E. 18th St.

“Les Miserables,” is a musical about a struggle against adversity in 19th century France.

Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and becomes an honest man, but struggles to escape his past.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23; 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24; 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25; 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30; 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.

The Oct. 30 performance is a benefit gala for Open House Ministries and CYT, and will include hors d’oeuvres, dessert and pre-show entertainment. This show has three ticket prices, $25, $50 and $100.

The $50 and $100 tickets include valet parking.

Ticket prices for the other shows are $12 for adults, and $9 for children and senior citizens.

Cape Horn ‘Super Citizens’ named

Several Cape-Horn Skye Elementary School students received a Super Citizens Award for the month of September for good habits.

Grass Valley to dedicate school

Grass Valley Elementary School, 3000 N.W. Grass Valley Drive, is hosting a dedication ceremony for the new building on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The events will include an all-school assembly at 9:15 a.m., a reception at 9:45 a.m., and a school tour at 10 a.m.
