Knowledge Bowl team fares well

CHS Knowledge Bowl students recently opened their 2010 season with a dominating performance against schools from throughout the region.

According to coach Dale Croswell, out of 12 varsity teams, the four CHS teams placed first-, second-, third- and fifth-place.

“Our highest scoring team was the group who won the state meet last year,” he said. “They started the year off by scoring 114 points, the second highest score by any knowledge bowl team in our ESD 112 region over the past 10 years. Our second and third placing teams both scored over 90 points, which are excellent varsity scores as well.”

On the junior varsity side, CHS had five of the 15 teams, which finished first-, second-, third-, sixth-, and llth-place.

Children’s Dental Health Day Feb. 5

Appointments can be scheduled now for the Children’s Health Dental Day on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., at the Clark College Dental Hygiene Clinic in Vancouver.

The event will offer free care for Clark and Skamania county children upt to age 19 with dental problems. The purpose is to serve families with limited income and no dental insurance.

Services provided will include X-rays, sealants, fluoride treatment, fillings and extractions.

Winter break movies

Movies projected on the Camas Public Library’s big screen will be shown during local schools’ winter break.

Schedule movie events include: “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole on Monday, Dec. 20, at 2:30 p.m.; “Eclipse” on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 2:30 p.m.; “How to Train Your Dragon” on Monday, Dec. 27, at 2:30 p.m.; and “Fantasia 2000” on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m.

Youth perform with Rockettes

Liberty Middle School sixth- and seventh-grade students Kelsie Ackerman and Ellie Cook, along with dance instructor Jen Filson, auditioned and were selected to perform in the opening act of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring The Rockettes at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26. They will be performing with the Stellar Rockettes.

Both girls take dance at Virtuosity Performing Arts Studio in Camas.
