Human remains discovered last weekend in western Skamania County are now in the hands of forensic examiners.

On Sunday, the remains were found by a property owner bulldozing brush on land located off of Turk Road. A four-day site investigation by the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office has concluded and the remains have been sent in for forensic work in an attempt to determine the identity and sex of the person.

The manner of death has not been determined at this time.

“We cannot stress enough the need to not jump to any conclusions on the identity nor the manner of death in this investigation” said Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Bond. “We still have further investigation before we can finalize this case.”

Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said additional details are expected within the next week.

“Those that were involved with the examination of the brush-covered scene did a miraculous job of recovering evidence that was crucial to this case, and we are very thankful for their assistance,” he said.
