Erin Carson of Camas is among 55 Linfield College students participating this fall in a study abroad program in China.

Carson is studying at the China Studies Institute at Peking University in Beijing and living in student residence halls.

In Beijing, students take excursions exploring themes of economic development, history and culture of Southern China and ethnic minorities.

Classes are taught in English with other Chinese students, allowing for immersion in different aspects of the culture.

Carson, a junior, is majoring in international relations with a minor in Chinese studies.

She is the daughter of Barry Carson and Carol Whitaker of Camas, and a member of the Linfield softball team.

The study abroad program is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors, and selection is made on a competitive basis.

Linfield covers the cost of the first round-trip airfare when students qualify, and students pay tuition and a program fee.
