Seth Albert, Alec Geenty, Trent Harimoto, Jeffery Lee, Nick Panebianco, Ian Walker and Jake Yraceburu have been district swimming champions all four years at Camas High School.
The Papermakers racked up 459 points to capture 4A district title Thursday, at Propstra Pool in Vancouver. Skyview finished in second place with 323 points.
Kasey Calwell, Yraceburu, Lucas Ulmer and John Utas got the meet started off with a bang by winning the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 40.57 seconds. From then on, Camas won eight of the remaining 10 events.
Seth Albert finished the day with four first place medals around his neck before helping his teammates hoist up the district championship trophy. He won the 200 freestyle (1:53.9) and the 100 freestyle (52.1). Albert, Harimoto, Utas and Xiaguang Yan took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.57). Albert, Calwell, Yraceburu and Ulmer grabbed first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:25.52).
Yraceburu earned first in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.71) and Calwell claimed first in the 200 individual medley (1:58.25). Utas (23.02),Yraceburu (23.42), Yan (24.14) and Harimoto (24.21) snagged the top four spots in the 50 freestyle.
Max Urbanek (5:11.85) and Panebianco (5:28.1) placed first and second in the 500 freestyle. Urbanek also took second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.6). Ulmer (54.61), Harimoto (56.94) and Nick Burton (1:02.7) finished second, third and fourth in the 100 butterfly. Ulmer also grabbed second in the 100 backstroke (56.61).
All of the event winners for Camas qualified for the state swimming meet Feb. 15 and 16, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Going back to bi-districts
The Camas girls basketball team will be playing in the bi-district tournament next week with determination to return to state.
Brenna Khaw delivered 11 of her team-leading 17 points in the fourth quarter to help the Papermakers beat Evergreen 42-30 Thursday, at Camas High School. Sierra Brown added 12 points.
The Plainsmen scored the first nine points of the game before Camas rallied for the final five points of the quarter, and then went on a 13-2 run in the second quarter. Evergreen fought back in the third quarter and tied the game up at 20. The Papermakers took the lead by two going into the fourth quarter, and then outscored the Plainsmen 20-10 the rest of the way.
Camas goes to Union tonight and challenges the Titans for the number-two seed. Tip off is at 6 p.m. The winning team challenges Skyview for the district championship Saturday, at 8 p.m., at Prairie High School.
The Washougal girls basketball team travels to River Ridge High School, in Lacey, tonight to begin the 2A girls district tournament. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
The Washougal boys wrestling team enters the 2A regional tournament Saturday, at Bremerton High School. The Washougal and Camas girls wrestling teams will be at their regional tournament Saturday, in Battle Ground. The Camas wrestling team competes in the 4A regional tournament Saturday, at Heritage High School.
The Washougal boys basketball team hosts River Ridge Saturday, in the first round of the 2A boys district tournament. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
