Vern Sapp, 90, of Camas, is a World War II veteran. As a member of the U.S. Amphibious Force, he was a cook on one of the ships that transported troops and equipment to Normandy, France, on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Sapp, a Kentucky native, was a sheet metal worker for 20 years at the paper mill in Camas before he retired. He and his wife Lillian have been married for 49 years.

A variety of events are planned in the Camas, Washougal and Vancouver areas and beyond, to honor the country’s military veterans on Veterans Day.
