With school back in session, The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington recently concluded its annual scholarship cycle for 2013.

This year, the Community Foundation and its donors awarded a total of $414,560 in scholarships to a group of 228 students enrolled in classes during the 2013-14 academic year. While their educational goals and interests vary widely, 97 percent of the recipients were Pacific Northwest residents and 93 percent of them have plans to continue their education within the region.

“We are humbled to have the honor of serving out the wishes of our donors,” Senior Philanthropic Advisor Anne Digenis said. “Through our scholarship program, that means directing charitable dollars toward supporting local students as they continue to pursue their educational goals.”

Digenis also said that while this scholarship cycle is coming to a close and school is just beginning, most students should already be preparing for next year. Part of that preparation could include gathering official transcripts, requesting letters of recommendation and writing a strong personal statement.
