On the sidelines: On the road again

A 320-mile trip from Camas to Auburn and back on a school night didn’t make the Papermakers flinch.

Propelled by a 34-point second quarter, Camas cruised to a 69-24 victory Thursday against Auburn-Mountainview.

Quarterback Reilly Hennessey threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns. James Price took two of his four catches into the end zone. Jorden Payne snagged the other touchdown pass from Hennessey.

Price gained 105 receiving yards. Cole Zarcone added 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Brian Kelly ran for two touchdowns and Jordan Del Moral chipped in with a 47-yard touchdown run.

The Papermakers also got work done on defense. Zach Eagle intercepted a pass. Brad Hansen forced a fumble that Adam Dawson recovered. John Ashford and Jason Vailea picked up sacks on the opposing quarterback.

After two games on the road, Camas returns to Doc Harris Stadium Friday. The Papermakers are going up against Lakes. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Panthers punish Fort Vancouver

Washougal eluded the Trappers and reached the end zone five times in a 35-0 victory Friday, at Kiggins Bowl.

Bobby Jacobs rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. He also completed a 33-yard halfback pass to Garrett Duey on fourth down that led to another Panther touchdown.

Brandon Casteel scored that touchdown following the pass from Jacobs to Duey. Casteel also recovered a fumble on Fort Vancouver’s first drive in the second half.

Adam Thomas intercepted a pass in the third quarter and then almost ran the ball in for a touchdown on offense a few plays later. Jacobs crossed the goal line twice on running and passing plays. Both times, the Panthers were called for holding.

A determined Washougal front line pushed forward and scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter. Jacobs and Duey each had long runs that set up a first-and-goal. Duey dove across the goal line for a touchdown.

The long road trip continues for the Panthers Friday, in Rainier, Ore. Washougal then opens league against R.A. Long Friday, Oct. 4, at Longview Memorial Stadium.
