2014 is quickly coming to a close, and as this happens we look back at the ups and downs, the triumphs and tragedies, the accomplishments and accolades of the past 52 weeks.

There have been the controversial topics — oil trains, marijuana legalization, and development and growth.

There have been reasons to celebrate — the grand opening of the Lacamas Lake Lodge and Conference Center, the Camas High School cross country team’s third state championship, Camas being named one of the country’s best small towns, and the purchase of property in Washougal that will someday become an amazing park.

And there have been tragedies — a fire at Grove Field Airport, the drowning of a local sailor, and most recently the death of a Washougal mother, grandmother and friend, who was killed while walking across a Camas street.

In the Jan. 27 edition of the Post-Record, these and other stories that grabbed readers’ attention will be highlighted in the annual Focus special section. It will also include a list of the top 10 stories of 2014.

The Post-Record’s newsroom staff will be compiling the list, but we’d like reader input as well. What do you think were the top stories, issues and events of 2014? Let us know your thoughts by sending an email to heather.acheson@camaspostrecord.com.

Happy New Year!
