Organizers of the annual “Project Homeless Connect” are seeking additional volunteers.

The event will be held Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Marian Hall, at St Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S. Andresen Road, Vancouver.

It is designed for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Last year, 437 people attended.

For volunteers, attendance is required at an orientation meeting at 8:30 a.m.

“There are several different assignments needed,” said Volunteer Coordinator Sherry Brandsma. “None need any special skills, except wanting to help the homeless, [and having] friendly and warm personalities.”

Volunteer opportunities include serving as hosts and greeters, security, foot care check in, dental check in, vision check in, guest check in, help handing out clothing, and check in volunteers and providers.

Haircuts, housing leads, employment resources, counseling, socks and gloves, foot washing and dental care will be provided. There will also be eye exams and glasses, health insurance and public benefits enrollment, and a meal.

Donations of new or good used clean clothing, especially coats, are appreciated.
