The Bring Back Our Girls Candlelight Vigil will show support for the recently kidnapped Nigerian girls.

On Friday, May 16, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., local citizens will gather for the vigil at the Roy Anderson Fountain at Clark College.

Organizer Angela Shot hopes the event will increase awareness of the April 16 abduction of more than 200 girls from a Nigeria school, and allow people to take a stand against the human rights violation.

“This is at its core, a basic human rights issue and acts like these are an injustice anywhere,” Shot said. “It cannot be ignored by the world. It is time for the world to stand together to protect our future by ensuring that the basic rights of individuals are protected.”

A limited supply of candles will be available. Attendees can also bring their own.

Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.
