The Papermaker boys basketball team's 15-5 record is the best one the program has achieved in 51 seasons.

After a pair of historical seasons, the Camas High School girls and boys basketball teams will host district semifinal playoff games Wednesday.

Head coach Skyler Gillispie took over the boys program when Jayce Allen, Jordan Anderson, Andre De Los Rios, Trevor Jasinsky, James Price and Kantas Zalpys joined as freshmen. They celebrated a special Senior Night Thursday. The Papermakers defeated Mountain View 89-41 to earn second place in the 4A Greater St. Helens League. Gillispie said their 15-5 record could be the best one this program has achieved since 1964.

“I am extremely proud of what these guys have accomplished,” he said, hopeful that the best is still to come. “These are the first seniors to play through all four years with me. It’s a very special group.”

Camas hosts the winner of tonight’s game between Skyview and Battle Ground Wednesday. Tip off is at 8 p.m.

“I’ve been playing with these guys forever. All of them are my best friends,” Anderson said. “Keep working hard for every last minute that we have, and keep getting better. Before you know, it’s going to be all over.”

After suffering a tough loss to Skyview Feb. 10, the Camas girls basketball team beat Mountain View 63-46 on Senior Night Thursday. The Papermakers and Storm became co-league champions. It’s the first one for Camas (16-5) since moving up to the 4A classification in 2012.

Skyview defeated Camas for the second time in four days in a tiebreaker for the number-one seed into the district tournament Friday, at Evergreen High School. The Storm capped off a 57-45 victory on an 18-4 surge in the fourth quarter.

The Papermakers jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter after Brenna Khaw hit a couple of 3-pointers. She finished with 22 points in the game. Nikki Corbett added 10, but got into foul trouble.

Skyview outscored Camas 21-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-27 lead at halftime. The Storm made 16 of their 21 shots from the foul line in the game.

The Papermakers host the winner of tonight’s game between Heritage and Battle Ground Wednesday. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
