Wrestling teams excel at tournaments

The Camas High School wrestling team captured first place at the Lakes Invitational Saturday.

Bryant Elliott, Dominic Delgado and Rylan Thompson earned championship medals to help the Papermakers rise above 17 other teams at the tournament.

A champion and six other medalists helped the Washougal girls wrestling team finish in second place at the 23-school Jaguar Invitational Saturday, at Emerald Ridge High School.

Jessica Eakins defeated Centralia’s Veronica Chigo 11-2 for the 105-pound championship medal. Abby Lees and Baylee Wright also wrestled in the finals for the Panthers and settled for second place.

Washougal gained three consolation medals. Yaneli Martinez pinned Enumclaw’s Alexandra Puzon in 46 seconds for third place at 100 pounds. Jaden Robb pinned Timberline’s Kaylan Rocamora in 2:53 for third place at 125. Mialisa Oster and Christina Murray both earned fifth place for the Panthers.

Washougal racked up 128 points to beat Centralia by 27. Mount Baker won the tournament with 223 points.

The Camas and Washougal wrestling teams host their final league matches of the season this week. The Papermakers challenge Skyview Wednesday and the Panthers welcome R.A. Long to town Friday. Both varsity matches start at 7 p.m.
