Friends and family members, ages 5 and older, can put their minds and bodies to the test in the Washougal Amazing Race Sunday, Sept. 18, at 54-40 Brewing Company.

The 4-mile course along the Washougal Dike Trail includes seven fun and unique team-building obstacles.

Racing director Emily Watts said participants have an opportunity to form a team and get to know their community through friendly competition.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the East County Family Resource Center, in Washougal.

“This race is intended to be a feel good event for the residents of Camas and Washougal, while generating business and donating to a great cause,” Watts said. “I just don’t think we schedule enough goofiness in our lives.”

Teams of two to seven members can sign up at www.racewashougal.com. The entry fee is $30 per team. At least one person on each team must be 18 or older. Sunday, Sept. 11, is the registration deadline. Racing packets must be picked up prior to Sept. 18, at 54-40 Brewery, 3801 S. Truman Road, No. 1.

The race begins and ends at 54-40 Brewery. The first wave of teams will start at 10:30 a.m., with other teams following every 15 minutes.

The award ceremony should take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. An after party continues until 3:30 p.m.

There is a set time limit at each of the seven different stations throughout the race. Watts said the obstacles range from “silly to slightly difficult.”

One raffle ticket will be given to each team for every successful challenge completed. All tickets go towards prizes awarded at the end of the race. Recognition will also be given to the group with the fastest time, the best dressed team and the best team name.

Watts said last year’s inaugural race featured 40 teams filled by more than 300 participants. Together, they raised approximately $1,700 for the Children’s Home Society.

“We didn’t know if we would get 10 people, so we were pleased,” Watts said. “We’re excited to see the community rally around this.”

Watts Counseling, Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy, Pure Wellness, CrossFit North Pacific, 54-40 Brewing Company, Discovery Dental, Gecho Construction and doTERRA are the event sponsors.

Additional sponsorship and vending opportunities are available at www.racewashougal.com.

“We want to raise a lot of money while keeping the race entry fee manageable. That’s our biggest challenge,” Watts said. “The more businesses that get involved, the more money we can donate.”
