Maurice Joseph Munch

November 23, 1937-January 4, 2016

Maurice (“Mo” to family and friends) died in early January at his Seattle home. He was born on November 23, 1937, to Herman and Irma Munch of Washougal. He grew up in Washougal, graduating from Washougal High School with the class of 1956. He attended the University of Washington, from which he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960.

Most of Mo’s professional life was with Boeing in Seattle. He also worked for Boeing on its Space Program and with first-astronaut-on-the-moon Neil Armstrong in Huntsville, Alabama. He obtained his Masters Degree while with Boeing in Huntsville.

After some years in Alabama, Mo moved back to his home state of Washington, living in Washougal and working with his father at Munch Electric. Returning to the Seattle area, he lived on acreage in Maple Valley in a home he built himself. He worked for Boeing for the remainder of his career.

Mo had a taste for outdoor activities, among them clamming and oystering, fishing, hiking and mountain climbing, and hunting. He was also an avid golfer.

Surviving Mo are his twin daughters, Deana Munch (Abed) and Lisa Heuple; stepchildren, Paul Haase, Jill Haase (Kelly), Rebecca Ryker, Debbie Haase (Carson), and Christy Haase; six grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren; sisters, Gretchen Ward and Carolyn Dixon (Richard), and brother, Louie Munch (JaneAnn). He will be greatly missed by his family and friends as he meant so much to so many.

A celebration of Mo’s life will be held on March 26th at the Dolphin Yacht Club in Washougal. Details will be printed two weeks prior. Those wishing to make memorial donations may send them in his name to a conservation or environmental organization of their choice.
