Ballots for the upcoming Camas School District bond are due Tuesday, Feb. 9. Ballots completed before that date can be dropped off at a secure ballot box at Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, 3510 S.E. 164th Ave., Vancouver, or sent via U.S. Mail.

On Election Day, ballots can be dropped off at Camas High School, 26900 S.E. 15th St.; Dorothy Fox Elementary, 2623 N.W. Sierra St.; Helen Baller Elementary, 1954 N.E. Garfield St.; or Prune Hill Elementary, 1601 N.W. Tidland St. Drop-off hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To pass, 60 percent of those who vote in the election must approve it, per Washington state law.

If approved, the $120 million bond will include several different projects including new high school and elementary school facilities, additional parking for Camas High School students, property acquisition, safety improvements, modernization of the Joyce Garver Theater/Garfield Building, concessions and bathrooms on the Doc Harris Stadium visitor side, and turf and light improvements at CHS fields.

If approved, starting in 2017, the bond measure would cost a taxpayer with a property valued at $300,000 approximately $15 more per month. The owner of a property worth $500,000 would pay an additional $25 per month.

The current bond tax rate is $2.95 per $1,000. This is approximately $73.75 per month for the owner of a $300,000 home, and $123 per month for the owner of a $500,000 home.
