Area residents are invited to thank officers for their dedication to the local communities during an appreciation event today.
The dinner, hosted by Washougal Mayor Sean Guard and Camas Mayor Scott Higgins, will be held at 5:30 p.m., at Goot Park, 303 S.E. Zenith St., Camas.
Complimentary pizza, donated by Sandy and Ken Calwell, with Papa Murphy’s Corporation, of Vancouver, will be provided for police officers. Water and soda will be provided by Greg and Roxanne Shelby, owners of Shelby’s Grille, of Washougal.
Firefighters from the Camas-Washougal Fire Department Stations 41 and 43 are planning to make pizzas and deliver them in fire trucks, as a show of support for officers.
“If members of the public would like to come by and thank our officers directly or drop off thank you cards or any small gesture for their service, I am sure the officers would be very appreciative,” Guard said. “Church groups and service clubs, come on out.
“Let’s really show these dedicated officers, who run to danger that we respect them and appreciate their efforts to keep up all safe,” he added.
Guard and Higgins hope other communities throughout the country do something similar for their officers.
Today’s event is in response to the recent shootings of police officers in Dallas, Texas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
