Festival of Trees returns

The seventh annual Festival of Trees is returning to raise funds for Washougal schools at Hathaway Elementary School, 630 24th St.

It will run Friday, Dec. 2 from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 to 6 p.m.

The festival is presented by the Washougal Lions Foundation and features pre-decorated Christmas trees, created by school and community groups, to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

There are also gift baskets to be auctioned and raffled through the event.

“Thanks in part to a very generous sponsorship from McDonald Excavating here in Washougal, this should be our best festival ever,” said Chuck Carpenter, committee chair. “We have several new groups decorating trees, our merchants are coming through with donations, and we’ll again have a Christmas tree laden with lottery tickets as a grand prize. We’ll have more than 100 volunteers working on decorating trees and helping throughout the event.”

Another popular feature of the event is Saturday morning breakfast and photos with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon. Breakfast is $3 per person, and photos with Santa are also $3 each.

To donate or volunteer to decorate a tree for the auction, contact Carpenter at 503-708-2242.
