The Hockinson band program will host the fourth annual North County Honor Bands Jan. 20 and 21, at Hockinson middle and high schools.

Approximately 140 student musicians will participate in the honor bands, representing seven high schools and 15 middle schools from the Battle Ground, Camas, Hockinson, La Center, Ridgefield, Washougal and Woodland school districts. Participants were recommended by their band director and selected based on ability and accomplishments.

The students will rehearse Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, before presenting the concert Saturday, at 7 p.m., in the HSH auditorium, 16819 N.E. 159th St. Brush Prairie. The event is free and open to the public.

The honor band is hosted by HSH band director Corey McEnry and HMS band director Jennifer Ritenburgh. Many of the local band directors also accompany their students to the event, which serves as a useful observation opportunity for area band directors.

The middle school honor band will be directed by longtime Oregon music educator and current McNary High School band director Jennifer Bell. The high school honor band will be directed by Dr. Danh Pham, director of bands at Western Washington University.
