C-W Port buys 7th Street property

The Port of Camas-Washougal Commission has approved the purchase of land near its Sixth Street property. The commission voted 3 to 0, April 3, to buy a 10,000 square foot lot at 1111 S. Seventh St., Washougal, from Ron Gustafson, for $190,000. The purpose of the purchase is to add additional, contiguous port property, according to Port Communications Manager Jack Hardy. The port will pay $50,000 at closing. Installment payments will be spread over three years beginning with $50,000 in 2013, $50,000 in 2014 and $40,000 in 2015 at an interest rate of four percent.

ECFR commissioner resigns from post

A longtime East County Fire & Rescue commissioner has resigned due to a move out of the district. John Clancy, who has served on the Commission for approximately seven years, stepped down because he moved out of the boundaries of ECFR, according to Chief Scott Koehler.

Lorrie and Shaun Conway operate a small acreage dairy goat farm. The couple continually looks at their farming operation to see what can be improved. In 2009, they added cheese processing in addition to goat milk.

Connected with the land

Eagle Rehabilitation at Camas recently made a pledge to support and honor the men and women who are members of the United States military Guard and Reserve. Representatives from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense organization, recently visited the local facility to present certificates memorializing this commitment to U.S. troops. The ESGR was established to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. Waterfront revitalization concepts are discussed

A conceptual drawing has been created, highlighting options that could one day occupy the former Hambleton Lumber Company site. The drawing, developed by staff with the consulting firm Maul Foster and Alongi, is intended to "just give a visual of the possibilities of the site," according to Port of Camas-Washougal Executive Director David Ripp. The possibilities included commercial/mixed use options, ranging in size from 10,000 square feet to 140,000 square feet, as well as restaurants and retail stores of 50,000 to 75,000 square feet.

Camas School District reviews boundaries

When Woodburn Elementary School opens its doors in the fall of 2013, it will be the sixth elementary school in Camas. The addition of a new building will mean a boundary revision at both elementary and middle school levels. "We need to redistribute the student population of the district, that is what is driving this," School Board member Doug Quinn said. "It also coincides with our long range facilities improvement. We are figuring out what the demands on our buildings are and trying to distribute students before we have to deal with more growth related issues."
