Aug. 5 Primary Election Results

Following the release of the first round of election results tonight, Washougal resident Mike Briggs has a secure lead in the Primary Election race for 18th District state representative.

Briggs, a democrat, will face incumbent Brandon Vick, a republican, in November's general election. Briggs currently has 39.58 percent of the vote, while Vick captured 34.32. The third challenger, Republican John Ley, earned 26.11 percent.

Meanwhile, in the race for Clark County Sheriff, Republican Chuck Atkins and non-partisan candidate Shane Gardner will move on to compete in the general election. Atkins earned 41.59 percent of the vote in today's primary, while Gardner captured 32.07 percent.

In the Third District U.S. representative race, incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Camas) won the primarily handily with 48.36 percent of the vote. She will face Democrat Bob Dingethal in the general election. The third candidate, Washougal resident and Republican Michael Delavar, earned 12.88 percent.

In each race, the two candidates with the most votes, regardless of political party, move on to the general election.
