EHS names ‘Student on Fire’

Catherine Clark has been named the Student on Fire on for April at Excelsior High School in Washougal.

“Catherine has distinguished herself by her outstanding academic achievement,” stated a press release from the school. “Catherine is a positive force in her classes as an active participant in classroom discussion, always with critical insight.”

Clark participates in basketball and track, and has an interest in architecture.

KMR Group awards scholarship

Kendra Herigstad of Camas High School has earned a scholarship from the KMR Group Foundation, a Vancouver nonprofit.

The scholarship is for books and tuition, and is renewable for four years. Students can receive up to $14,000 in that four-year period.

Herigstad is one of 31 students in Clark County who earned the scholarship.

“Our goal each year is to award 25 deserving students the opportunity to chase their academic dreams,” said Kate Jones, KMR founder and executive director. “But this year the selection process was so difficult and the candidates so outstanding that we decided to award all the finalists a KMR scholarship.”

Camas students earn degrees from Baylor University

Two Camas students were among the 2,500 Baylor University graduates who participated in spring commencement exercises May 13 and 14 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus. Baylor University is a private Christian university in Waco, Texas.

Students are: Nadine Elaina Stone, Bachelor of Arts, university scholar, Magna Cum Laude; and Rachel Michelle Terry, Bachelor of Science in electrical and computer engineering.

Mount Pleasant to expand offerings

Mount Pleasant School, located in rural Washougal, is expanding its middle school program to include eighth-graders. In addition to regular curriculum, supplemental activities include art, music, swimming, Lego robotics, baton twirling, gardening and wind power.

Mount Pleasant offers bus transportation to and from Washougal, and the surrounding areas.
