Camtown Youth Festival flea market tables available Youth are invited to participate in the Camtown Youth Festival flea market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 3, at Crown Park in Camas. The youth vendors may sell items to visitors or trade toys and crafts. Commercial wares and food items are not allowed. Items must be in good condition and children must have adult supervision present at the flea market. Youth may rent a 10-by-10 vendor space for $5. Vendors must provide their own table, chairs and canopy. The festival includes games, arts and crafts activities, entertainment, food, a youth art show, petting zoo, selfie booth and other "kid related" information booths. Pre-registration is required for the flea market tables. Early bird registration fees cost $5 per table and are due by Friday, May 26. Registration after May 26 will cost $10 per table. A $20 walk-in fee will apply for day-of-event registration. CHS student featured in 'Pinkalicious: The Musical' Camas High School student Skylar Derthick will star as Peter in the Oregon Children's Theater production, "Pinkalicious: The Musical," about a girl who eats so many pink cupcakes that she turns completely pink from head to toe. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink to the production. Stan Foote directs the OCT musical, based on Elizabeth and Victoria Kann's Pinkalicious children's books. The musical shows at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays and at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sundays, May 6 through June 4, at the Newmark Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway St., Portland. CWAA scholarships available The Camas Washougal Aviation Association is offering a scholarship program for local students. CWAA college scholarships are available for local students entering aviation related programs, and enrolled at an accredited college and/or trade school. Teen party set for April 21 Strong Teens Against Substance Hazards and Abuse will sponsor a "Prevention is a Party" event from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the Firstenburg Center, 700 N.E. 136th Ave., Vancouver. The event is open to all Clark County middle and high school students. It includes free food, swimming, basketball, music, video games, table games and prizes. 'Club K3,' to meet April 26 Club K3, for students in kindergarten through third-grade, meets the fourth Wednesday of every month through May at the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas. ESD 112 to host school board candidate information night Individuals interested in running for a seat on their local school board are invited to attend an upcoming informational session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 8, in the Conference and Institute Center at Educational Service District 112, 2500 N.E. 65th Ave., Vancouver. ESD 112, in partnership with the Washington State School Directors' Association, is hosting the event. Tim Garchow, executive director for WSSDA, will talk about the roles and responsibilities of a school board member. Afterward, a panel of current school board members will discuss opportunities and challenges associated with serving as a school director. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage with other board members at the event. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required to attend the event. High school students invited to participate in Congressional Art Competition Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler's office is now accepting submissions for the 2017 Congressional Art Competition. The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students who attend school in Southwest Washington's Third Congressional District. The competition winner will have their artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol Building, and receive free airfare for themselves and one guest to attend the annual ribbon-cutting ceremony in Washington D.C. in June. Second- and third-place winners will be invited to display their artwork in Herrera Beutler's district office. The submission deadline is Friday, April 28. Artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed piece should be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. Weight should not exceed 15 pounds. WHS student named to All-Washington Academic Team Meghan Jackson, a senior at Washougal High School and Running Start student, was named to the Washington All-State Academic Team. She will graduate in June with both her high school diploma and associate's degree from Clark College. Jackson has maintained a 4.0 GPA in both her high school and college courses. She is the daughter of Kim and Rob Jackson of Washougal. iQ Credit Union awards schools' reading grants iQ Credit Union has awarded $12,000 in "Read With Me" literacy program grants to promote reading and put books in the hands of elementary, middle and high school students. Recipients include Camas and Washougal school districts. Fifty-eight teachers in 33 individual schools received the 2017 grants, which will benefit more than 1,400 students. "Reading is the foundation of all aspects of learning," said Kelly Schrader, President and CEO of iQ Credit Union. "The Read With Me program was started to distribute books to children through their classroom programs." Read With Me takes applications from teachers and administrators looking to expand their reading programs.
