Teens invited to audition for vocal competition Registration is open for auditions for this year’s Sing Fourth Teen Vocal Competition presented by Davidson Insurance and Liberty Northwest Insurance Company. Auditions will be granted to the first 45 Clark County high school students who contact contest organizers at the Fort Vancouver National Trust at 992-1804 or events@fortvan.org. Auditions begin at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 9. Contest information, including the registration form, is available on the Trust’s website: www.fortvan.org/fourth. A panel of judges will select 10 finalists who will compete in the contest, which begins at noon at the Vancouver Toyota main stage during Independence Day at the Fort Vancouver National Site. Contestants are asked to bring a karaoke-style CD of their musical accompaniment to the audition. Songs must be three minutes or shorter. Finalists will be expected to perform the same musical number in front of a panel of celebrity judges for the Sing Fourth competition. Contestants will be judged based on originality, skill, poise, likely audience appeal and family friendly content. The first place winner receives a $1,000 college scholarship. The second place winner receives a $500 scholarship, and the third place winner receives a $250 scholarship. Maguire wins national scholarship James Maguire, a senior at Washougal High School, has won the 43rd annual national Washington Crossing Foundation scholarship competition. The awards are granted to high school seniors for the best all-around presentation, including an explanation of why they are planning careers in government service. According to a press release, the foundation noted that the winners, “represent the most talented and accomplished of our country’s young leaders and that is why it is these young men and women who are dedicating themselves to public service.” CHS Magnet program presents symposium The Cams High School Math, Science and Technology Magnet program is hosing a student project symposium from 5:30 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday. The public is invited. The evening will begin with a poster fair and social in the CHS commons from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Following that will be a presentation of selected team projects in the school theater from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. CHS is located at 26900 S.E. 15th St. Wernow earns doctorate Josiah N. Wernow was granted a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the department of engineering at the University of California in Berkeley on Saturday, May 12. His field of study was micro-electronic mechanical systems. Wernow graduated from Clark College and Camas High School in 2004. He also earned a bachelor of science in engineering from Washington State University, Pullman, in 2007. He has accepted a position as senior engineer with Seagate Technology in Minneapolis, Minn., where he and his wife, Dr. Angela Chen Wernow, will be moving this summer. Nicholson lands on dean’s list Camas resident Lisa Nicholson was named to the winter quarter 2012 dean’s list at the University of Washington. To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA.
