Dream season continues

As the Camas High School football team prepares for the Washington State Championship game on Saturday, football fever is alive and well in Camas.

It’s an excitement that has slowly built up during what has turned out to be a dream season for the 2013 Papermakers.

The past three months have produced convincing wins against all 13 opponents Camas has faced, beginning with a 47-14 win in September against Jesuit High School — a team that is now playing for the Oregon 6A state championship against Central Catholic.

The undefeated Papermakers will play for their own state championship at the Tacoma Dome, in a game against Chiawana of Pasco that will be broadcast live on television.

This will mark the first time in Camas High School history that its football has ever competed in a state championship, and the whole city is celebrating the achievements of these coaches and young athletes.

Last night, Camas Mayor Scott Higgins, himself a former Camas High School football player and 1990 graduate, proudly read a proclamation designating Dec. 2 through 8 as “Camas High School Football Appreciation Week.”

“The City of Camas desires to recognize the achievements of the Camas High School football team, under the leadership of Coach Jon Eagle and his assistant coaches, and acknowledge the appreciation of the citizens of Camas for the hard work and dedication of this outstanding group of student-athletes as the team prepares for the state championship final.”

These are the kinds of events that incredible memories — for fans and players — are built on, and the Papermakers have a whole city supporting them in their quest to make this dream season truly complete.
