Camas slams Evergreen

A Plainsman had a night to remember, but seven Papermakers set a new school record for points in a game. The Camas boys basketball players and coaches hadn't forgotten about the game-winning buzzer beating over the shoulder basket Robert Franks made against them in the first round of the district tournament. The shot gained national attention. A video of it is available on Youtube. When the Papermakers stepped on the court at Evergreen High School for the first time since the hysteria, Franks terrorized them again in the first half. The 6-foot-8 senior nailed seven 3-pointers and scored 29 of his 46 points. Camas never lost its composure, grabbed momentum in the second half and slammed the lid on a satisfying 93-85 victory. "Hats off to Robert. He was seeing an ocean for a basket tonight," said Camas head coach Skyler Gillisipe. "Not a lot changed for us. The kids stuck to the game plan and executed. They played unselfish, shared the ball and made things happen. That was the key to winning this game." Trevor Jasinsky stole the ball and slammed it through the hoop to begin the second half for the Papermakers. It was like lighting off a firecracker. Jasinsky delivered 16 of his 29 points in the third quarter. Fans at the game are not likely to forget watching Jasinsky dunk an alley-oop from teammate Jake Hansel. "I know Jake's always looking out for me. I told him to just put it up there, and I'll do the best I can," Jasinsky said. "I'm glad I could finish that play for him." Jordan Anderson added to Camas' outburst with 26 points. Hansel scored 12, James Price chipped in 10, Andre De Los Rios earned eight, Brandon Nguyen netted six and Kantas Zalpys finished with two. Camas outscored Evergreen 22-14 in the third quarter, while Franks sat on the bench in foul trouble. The Plainsmen chipped away at the deficit when Franks returned to the floor, but the Papermakers never lost control. Jasinsky put the nail in the coffin with another dunk between three Plainsmen. "I always sleep good at night when we get a win. To get so many touches and teammates involved makes this win that much sweeter," Jasinsky said. "When we click on all cylinders like we did tonight, we are going to be a tough team to beat." Camas girls bounce back After frustrating losses to two Oregon schools, the Camas girls basketball team defeated Evergreen 47-25 for its first league victory. "It's nice to know we could beat them even though we weren't playing even close to pur full potential," said senior guard Brenna Khaw. "I hope this is the start to something special. Every game from here on out is going to be a fight. We're not taking any team for granted." Khaw finished with seven points and several assists. Nikki Corbett led the attack with 10 points and Courtney Clemmer added seven. "It helps having two 6-2 posts in there, especially when both of them are always looking for the ball," Khaw said. Emma Jones turned steals into fast breaks and scored seven points. Mia Hunt had six, Teague Schroeder delivered five, Meghan Finley netted three and Madison Freemon finished with two. The Camas girls will be back at Evergreen for a holiday tournament. The Papermakers play St. Helens, Ore. Dec. 27, at 4:30 p.m.; Woodland Dec. 28, at 3 p.m.; and Benson Tech Dec. 29, at 4:30 p.m. All three games will be available to listen to at www.elisportsnetwork.com/webcasts.
