Patriot's Pen essay contest set in CW The Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary are hosting the annual essay contests for students in third- through 12th grade. The theme for high school students is, "My Vision for America." Middle school students' theme is "What Freedom Means to Me," and the theme for youth in third through fifth grade is, "Why is America my favorite country." The essay contests gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. The top prizes include savings bonds, scholarships and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Essays are due by Sunday, Nov. 1. CHS to host open house Wednesday Camas High School, 26900 S.E. 15th St., will have an open house on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. to help acquaint parents with teachers, classes, and co- and extra-curricular opportunities available. The event will include a club and activity fair in the main commons from 5 to 6 p.m., a welcome assembly from 6:05 to 6:30, and classroom visitations from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All parents and guardians of CHS students are welcome. Volunteers needed for 'On Target Tuesday' Camas High School is seeking volunteers for its "On Target Tuesday," program, where counselors and community members meet with junior and senior class students to inform them whether they are meeting the necessary credit requirements and answer questions. Many students also receive information about local universities, scholarship opportunities and the SAT/ACT tests. To participate in the program, contact Amira.Walcott@camas.wednet.edu. WSU to host financial aid workshop Washington State University Vancouver will host a series of A-Z of Financial Aid and Scholarships workshops this fall for prospective college students. These workshops are free and open to the public. Attendees will hear from financial aid advisors about the ways to make a college education attainable. Presenters will answer commonly asked questions about financial aid and scholarships, including what scholarships are available, how to apply for financial aid, and when and how to receive awarded funds. Workshops will be held at WSU Vancouver, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., unless otherwise specified. The Camas 4 Kids Health Fair is being presented by the Camas Student Health Advisory Committee, in partnership with Everyone Walk, a non-profit organization founded by Camas resident Dale Rule.
