Childfind screening scheduled Jan. 6 There will be free screenings for children ages 3 to 5 who live in the Camas School District boundaries on Wednesday, Jan. 6. The screenings test children in hearing, vision, speech, concept and motor development, and last approximately one hour. Results are confidential and discussed with parents only. YouthBuild accepting applications Clark County residents, ages 17 to 24, who have left high school without a diploma, may qualify for a free education and training program and job-related skills. Information sessions for YouthBuild will be held Dec. 9, 15 and 29 and Jan. 6 and 15 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Partners in Careers, 3210 N.E. 52nd St., Vancouver. Those enrolled in YouthBuild will have the opportunity, at no cost, to obtain their GED or high school diploma, gain two nationally-recognized construction certifications, participate in building a house for a family in need and receive services, including job, college and career preparation. Led by the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, YouthBuild is a collaboration of nonprofit organizations that includes Partners in Careers, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, Vancouver Housing Authority and WorkSource. Clark County Quilters auction benefits children's justice center in Vancouver The Clark County Quilters will be selling their handmade quilts at an auction to benefit the Children's Justice Center. It will take place 6 p.m. Thursday at the Vancouver Church of Christ, 9019 N.E. 86th St. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Children's Justice Center. Teen suicide prevention presentation set Mary Jadwisiak, Clark and Cowlitz counties field coordinator for the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, will present at Hayes Freedom High School, 1919 N.E. Ione St., Camas. It will take place Thursday, Dec. 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. She will share information on teen depression and suicide prevention. WSU Vancouver brings 'A Radio Christmas Carol' to Kiggins A live performance of the radio drama "A Radio Christmas Carol" will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 16. at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to bring a donation for the Clark County Food Bank. The performance, now an annual event, is family friendly. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a performance by the Hough Elementary Glee Chorus. At 7 p.m., the Willamette Radio Workshop will perform "A Radio Christmas Carol," an adapted version of "A Christmas Carol," directed by Sam A. Mowry. The performance is offered as part of the Re-Imagined Radio project produced by John Barber, faculty member in WSU Vancouver's Creative Media and Digital Culture Program.
