Volunteers have been hard at work stuffing 5,000 brightly colored plastic eggs with candy, coins and other goodies in preparation for the Downtown Washougal Association’s inaugural Easter egg hunt.

Those lending their time to help out have included Scouts, Washougal Lions, local business leaders and members of the city council.

The EGGstravaganza, for kids in fifth grade and younger, will be held Wednesday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Reflection Plaza, located at Main Street and Pendleton Way.

“We wanted to remove a bit of the frenzy in this egg hunt so we’ll let kids enter the hunt area in small groups to find six eggs each, one of each color, before they exit,” explained Courtney Wilkinson, DWA president. “This way the event can be spread out over the whole two hours and families won’t need to be worried they will miss out if they are not here as the event begins.”

The EGGstravaganza will also include photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny and Easter Chick, music, treats including cotton candy and snow cones, and activities for kids of all ages. Students from the Dayley Dance Academy will perform, and the Rotary Club Duck will pass out rubber ducks.

“We hope families come and enjoy the event and then stay around for shopping or dining at any of our great downtown Washougal restaurants,” Wilkinson said.
