Camas police are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for setting a fire at a Camas park last week.

The fire broke out at Klickitat Park in Northwest Camas early Thursday morning.

According to Camas Fire Department Capt. Chuck Bettis, emergency crews were dispatched to Northwest McIntosh Road and Klickitat Street at 12:52 a.m., and arrived on scene a few minutes later. They found the park’s plastic play structure and the wood chips surrounding it totally engulfed in flames.

Two CFD fire engines carrying six firefighters and one battalion chief were on scene. Contained within a matter of minutes, the fire at the neighborhood park did not spread to any other structures, or surrounding homes.

The Camas Police Department and the Camas Fire Marshal are currently conducting an investigation into the suspicious fire, the cause of which is unknown.

City officials estimate the loss at approximately $20,000 to $30,000.

The 9-acre park, which opened to the public in 2006, includes an open play field, basketball court, discovery garden, trails, open space, a bathroom and a picnic shelter.

Anyone with information about the case should contact the CPD at 834-4151.
