Six candidates are vying for the Ward 1 position on the Camas City Council.

On Monday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m., Michael Boyer, Mel Cardon, Cliff Duncan, Tim Hazen, Kris Henriksen and Dan Stephen will be interviewed for the position that is currently held by Helen Gerde. Applications for the seat were accepted through Nov. 30.

“Council will have an opportunity to interview the six candidates, and have an opportunity to vote,” said Mayor Paul Dennis.

The selected candidate is expected to be approved by council that evening, with the individual’s term beginning on Jan. 1, and running through Dec. 31, 2011.

Council members earn $6,000 annually.

Gerde, who is in her 15th year on the council, announced in October that her resignation would be effective at the end of the year.

A reception will be held in Gerde’s honor following the Dec. 20 workshop, which begins at 4:30 p.m., at City Hall, 616 N.E. Fourth Ave. Refreshments will be served.
