Coe named to dean’s list

Tabitha Coe from Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif.

To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.6 GPA and take at least 12 graded credits.

Three students are national merit semi-finalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program has announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists nation-wide.

Camas High School seniors Gabriele Ilarde, Alexander Pien and Nadine Stone are among these students who will continue in the competition for 8,200 National Merit Scholarships.

Clark College to offer new transfer degree

Health informatics information technology is the newest transfer degree program at Clark College.

It will be offered starting winter quarter 2012.

Health informatics is the study of resources and methods for the management of health information.

The field uses computer technology to coordinate the information systems used by hospital, medical clinics and health care professionals.

Students who complete the program can continue on to obtain a bachelor’s degree at Oregon Institute of Technology, which has a campus near Wilsonville, Ore.

Teachers earn national board certification

Camas High School teachers Sarah Widdop (humanities) and Kelly Ramey (Spanish), recently learned that their portfolios were approved by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Receiving national certification requires assembling a detailed portfolio of classroom instruction, including hours of video that must be condensed into a short segment.

Teachers must also take an exam.

‘The Nutcracker’ features local students

Several local students will perform in Columbia Dance’s production of the traditional holiday classic “The Nutcracker.”

Performers include Ben Gutkind, Lizzie Schneider, Rebecca Schneider, Molly Bartley, Hannah Gutkind, Kamiah Auger-Koch and Minerva Zhou.

Performances will be at the Royal Durst Theatre, Vancouver School of Arts & Academics, 3101 Main Street, Vancouver.

Performance times are 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 and 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19.

Tickets are $10 for children aged 12 and under; and $18 for adults, and are available at: Columbia Dance Center, 1700 Broadway Ave., Vancouver or at the door.
