Juanita ‘Joni’ Carmack died March 27, 2011, in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 93.

Cruz O. “Cookie” Dement, a long-time resident of the Vancouver-Camas area, died March 22, 2011, in Vancouver.

Robert A. Gavin died March 24, 2011, at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver. He was 71.

LaVerne D. Dinsmore

LaVerne D. Dinsmore died March 4, 2011, at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. She was 66.

She was born March 1, 1945, in Worthington, Minn. She was a retired paper worker and had lived in the Camas-Washougal area for 59 years.

Shirley V. Nielsen

Shirley Vella Nielsen died March 24, 2011, in Portland, Ore. She was 80.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Fisher’s Landing Ward, 13600 Southeast McGillivray Blvd., Vancouver. Viewing will be held at the church from 10 to 11 a.m., in the Relief Society Room.

Vault interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, 11801 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., in Portland. Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas is in charge of arrangements.

Marilee Jo Thompson

Marilee Jo Thompson died peacefully March 21, 2011, at home in Camas. She was 60.

Services were held Saturday, at The Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Vancouver. She will be buried in the Camas Cemetery next to her granddaughter in a private ceremony. A public celebration of Marilee’s life will be held April 9, at 1 p.m., at her home in Camas. Straub’s Funeral Home in Camas was in charge of arrangements.

Janet “Jan” Bissenger Schulz died March 22, 2011, in Vancouver. She was 62.

Internment was held Monday in Pendleton, Ore., next to her husband. Burns Mortuary in Pendleton was in charge of arrangements.
