Community Ed offers KinderAdvantage program

Washougal Community Education and Recreation is offering a new, 2-day a week, fee-based program for kindergarten students. It will provide them with additional grade level activities which support school curriculum.

Limited bussing is available. The fee is planned for approximately $25 per day, per student.

Currently, the Washougal School District offers an all-day, every other day kindergarten program.

Fall writing contest open to teens

The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District is hosting a writing contest for sixth- through twelth-grade students.

The contest runs through Oct. 8. Winners will be announced on Friday, Oct. 21 in an awards ceremony and author visit from Blake Nelson.

Teen Read Cafe set Sept. 20

A book discussion group for students in seventh- through twelth-grade will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Camas Library,

The book is “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card. Those who attend the meeting get to keep the book. Advance sign-up is required.

Advanced Placement meeting set

There will be a meeting regarding advanced placement classes on Monday, Sept. 19, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Washougal’s Washburn Performing Arts Center, 1201 39th St.

Students, parents and community members are invited to attend.

Advanced placement courses are college level classes. Students who successfully complete these earn college level credit.

The presentation will be conducted by Nancy Potter, who is the western regional educational manager for College Board, the agency that generates the AP program.
