Terry Williams (second from left), president, chief executive officer and founder of Transport Holding Co., Inc., stands with his fiance Felicia Bond and staff members, by his 2004 Lamborghini, in Reflection Plaza. Bond is the Texas regional director for Red Carpet Auto Transport, Inc., one of the six auto shipping brokerages that Transport Holding owns. Williams recently moved his company's offices from downtown Camas to Washougal Town Square.

A corporation that handles the shipping of more than 50,000 cars, trucks, SUVs and vans a year has moved from downtown Camas to downtown Washougal.

Transport Holding Co., Inc., has leased the 3,080-square-foot Suite 230, in Washougal Town Square.

It operates six auto shipping brokerages. Three are based out of the Washougal office, and the other three are in Phoenix, Ariz.

Terry Williams, president and chief executive officer, splits his time between the two cities.

The brokerages in Washougal are Magic Carpet Auto Transport, Inc., Cascade Vehicle Shipping, Inc. and Domestic Auto Transport, Inc.

In Phoenix, there are Red Carpet Auto Transport, Inc., Top Notch Auto Transport, Inc. and The Car Transporters, Inc.

Transport Holding Co., Inc., contracts with more than 5,800 trucking companies in the U.S.

“The internet has really revolutionized our business,” Williams said.

He explained that 15 years ago, if a person wanted to get a vehicle from someone in another state, that person would possibly pay college students to drive the vehicle.

There are more than 80 Transport Holding agents and employees. Fifty of those are in the Portland and Washougal area.

Williams founded the company 10 years ago.

He remembers enjoying being around cars at a young age.

Williams’ dad owned muffler shops and used car lots in Indiana, and he drove midget and sprint race cars.

“I grew up around cars,” Williams said. “That is why we are so caring for our clients’ cars.”

He recalls driving Chevelles, Corvettes and “souped up” Mustangs.

The company was started in Williams’ kitchen on Forest Home Lane, in Camas, before it operated out of two units at the Farrell building apartments above Camas Antiques.

In 2006, Transport Holding Co. relocated to the Riverview Community Bank building at 700 N.E. Fourth Ave.
