Customers of Caffe Piccolo can relax, knowing their coffee cravings will be satisfied at the business’ current location through the early part of next spring.

The owner of Birch Street Uptown Lounge, Kevin Taylor, has agreed to delay the start of a remodeling project for 90 days, which will give the coffee shop time to relocate.

Caffe Piccolo is located at 309 N.E. Birch St., in downtown Camas. Birch Street Uptown Lounge is at 311 N.E. Birch St.

Jodi Vaughan, owner of Caffe Piccolo, said she is in negotiations for a lease at an undisclosed location.

“As soon as we are finalized and have a contract, we can begin the buildout and have a better understanding of how long it will take,” she said. “We have agreed to pay rent to Birch Street Lounge through the end of March. Hopefully, we will be in a new storefront before that.”

Vaughan has said previously she was surprised when she received a letter from her landlord, Bob Angelo, on Nov. 1, stating that he would not renew her lease for Jan. 1, 2015.

Taylor said Angelo told him he was not going to renew the coffee shop lease that was expiring Dec. 31.

“He asked if I’d be interested [in the space], and I told him ‘yes,'” Taylor said previously. “We’re turning customers away on weekends and need more room.”

He said the additional space will be remodeled extensively to make the spaces blend together.

Approximately 20 feet of wall will be opened, pending engineering and the permit review process.

“The additional space will allow us to handle the increasing volume of customers and events that we currently turn away on busy weekends,” Taylor said.

The expansion work will begin on April 1 and take 30 to 60 days to complete. The Birch Street Uptown Lounge will remain open during that time.
