Gabrielle Roscher, a pre-med student, is raising funds for a March 2014 trip to Malawi, Africa, through Habitat for Humanity.

The 21-year-old Washougal resident attends Clark College and is the vice president of student government.

Her career goal is to specialize as an OB/GYN and work in Third World countries.

“Participating in Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village program has been a dream of mine for years, and I finally built up the courage to apply,“ she said. “This trip is a perfect fit for me because it’s during my spring break and we will be working with their Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project.”

This project supplies orphans and their caretakers with adequate housing, health education and legal assistance. However, participants must pay for all of their own costs to make the trip.

“The only problem is now that I’ve been accepted I’m afraid I won’t actually make it, due to lack of funds,” Roscher said. “So I’ve set up two campaigns to help me along my journey to get to Africa. I know that Camas and Washougal both have a wonderful sense of community, and I would greatly appreciate any help; whether it be donations or simply spreading the word.”

The total amount needed for the trip is $4,250.
