Students at Camas and Washougal high schools will work toward a common goal of collecting 85,000 pounds of food during the sixth annual Stuff the Bus food drive.

Donations are currently being collected for the largest food drive in the Camas-Washougal area.

Stuff the Bus, organized by the Camas-Washougal Business Alliance, is a collaborative effort between Camas and Washougal high schools. Students have set a goal of collecting 85,000 pounds of food. Beneficiaries include the CAROL basket program, American Legion, Children’s Home Society and the Inter-Faith Treasure House.

Wednesday, CHS will kickoff its campaign at Burgerville in Camas, from 4 to 9 p.m. Ten percent of all profits will be donated to the Stuff the Bus efforts.

Currently, bags of food can be purchased at Safeway stores in Camas and Washougal, and donations are also being collected at Walmart on 192nd Avenue in Camas.

In addition, raffle tickets can be purchased and cash donations made at C-W Safeway stores on Nov. 22, 26 and 29. Cash donations can also be made at www.cwbusinessalliance.com.

The weigh-in event will be held Friday, Dec. 5. From noon to 5 p.m., students will be stuffing buses with boxes of canned food in front of Camas and Washougal high schools.

Most needed items include tuna fish, chili, baby food, peanut butter, granola bars, nutritious “pop top” canned food, toothpaste, shampoos, blankets and diapers.

Since 2008, Stuff the Bus has raised nearly 400,000 pounds of food for people in need.
