Two members of the Camas-Washougal Post-Record staff recently won state writing awards.

The Washington Newspaper Publishers Association announced during its recent conference in Chelan that Managing Editor Heather Acheson and Government Reporter Dawn Feldhaus had earned the honors.

Feldhaus won first place in the Best Business Feature Story category for an article she wrote titled “Homemade with Love & Laughter.” It profiled the mother-daughter owners of the Washougal business Wildflour Cafe and Cupcakes.

The judges wrote that the story “was an easy read and speaks to the American dream.”

Acheson won first place in the Best General Feature Story category for “Sisters, Survivors,” an article she wrote about two Camas sisters who were victims of sexual abuse as children, now working to change a state law relating to sex offenders.

The judges said Acheson “approached this sensitive topic in an honest and compelling way. Impressive and well-written.”

Entries submitted by the Post-Record competed against those from other newspapers ranging in circulation size from 2,501 to 5,000 subscribers.
