A free community dinner of spaghetti and turkey with all of the trimmings will be served on Christmas Day in Washougal.

The event, organized by Refuel Washougal and Camas Calvary Community Church, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Washougal Community Center, 1681 “C” St.

Santa Claus will stop by for a visit to hand out gifts to children and adults.

Pam Clark, a member of the Refuel Washougal board, said donations of toys for children and small gifts for adults are being accepted.

In addition, contributions of cookies and other desserts are also sought to include in a container that each attendee will be able take with them after the meal to eat at home.

According to Clark, Refuel’s dinner held the day after Thanksgiving drew 70 people. With that in mind, she’s not sure how many to expect on Dec. 25.

“It’s open to anybody,” she said. “Everyone is welcome.”

Refuel Washougal is a coalition of community leaders that works to help raise awareness and educate the public about the needs of citizens who are unable to provide adequate food for themselves and their families.

In an effort to help feed low income community members, families in need, the homeless, and needy seniors in the Camas-Washougal communities, Refuel Washougal offers a free meal every Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Silver Star Search and Rescue, 1220 “A” St.

“We’ve got to give back,” she said. “I have a feeling that this might become a tradition.”
