A woman who began to learn about the safe use, handling and storage of firearms when she was 10 years old has opened her first business — an indoor shooting range that also provides retail sales of guns and accessories, in Camas.

Danna Olson, 26, began bow and rifle hunting and passed a hunter’s safety course when she was 14.

“I am passionate about firearms safety and training,” she said. “I want people to know that the firearm industry can be a safe and fun time for all ages and skill levels, with the proper training and equipment. It all comes down to the safe use, handling and storage of firearms.”

Olson’s business, Safefire Indoor Shooting Range & Retail Sales has 27 air-conditioned lanes, with digital action target equipment and a shooting distance of up to 25 yards. The Gunfighter Simulation System provides surround sound and a variety of scenarios.

The public can rent guns and eye and ear protection to use in the lanes.

Discounts for veterans, military and law enforcement personnel are available. Safefire offers silver, gold, platinum and corporate memberships. A lounge for platinum level members has seating, 70-inch and 50-inch flat screen TVs, a wet bar and a 20-foot viewing window.

The retail sales area has pistols, shotguns and long rifles, as well as targets, vertical grips and ammunition. Knives, optics, front and rear sights, holsters, ring mounts, T-shirts and range qualifier bags — totes to transport firearms and ammunition to and from the gun range — are also available to purchase.

Individual safes can be rented, to store guns at Safefire.

There are 25 employees, including Olson. She plans to hire five additional workers during the early part of 2016. The workers include range safety officers and instructors.

Classes include youth introduction to firearms, advanced concealed carry and family firearms safety. Additional topics include introduction to shotguns, practical rifle skills and family and individual readiness.

Ladies-only training and classes include introduction to handguns, practical handguns and advanced handguns.
