Two die in SR-14 crash

Pickup truck crossed center line and collided with car traveling eastbound

Two Portland residents were killed in a two-vehicle accident one-half mile east of Washougal.

The accident occurred Wednesday, at approximately 12:02 p.m., less than a quarter mile from the parking lot entrance to the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

Justin A. Clayton, 25, and Anna Wichman, 29, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington State Patrol Lt. Jason Linn said a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup was westbound on state Route 14, at approximately milepost 19. The traffic ahead of the pickup had stopped behind a hay truck that was waiting to turn left on a side road off of the highway.

The pickup crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2015 Kia Soul that was traveling eastbound.

Clayton and Wichman were passengers in the back seat of the Kia.

The driver of the Kia, Jesikah L. Clausen, 25, of Portland, and a passenger sitting in the right front seat, Sean Knudeson, 32, of Portland, were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, in Vancouver, and are in satisfactory condition.

The driver of the pickup, Robert O. Snider, 91, of Vancouver, is in serious condition at PeaceHealth.

The accident remains under investigation by the WSP. Linn said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a cause in the collision. All occupants were wearing safety restraints.

In addition to the WSP, responding agencies included the Camas-Washougal Fire Department, Washougal Police Department and East County Fire and Rescue.
