Bailey Watts collected 14 kills to lead the Washougal volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19 victory over Hudson's Bay Thursday, at Hudson's Bay High School.

The Washougal High School volleyball team is setting a new standard.

Bailey Watts fired 14 kills, Rebecca Boylan added 12 kills, Makena Hoesly notched 25 digs and Erika Johnson earned 34 assists to help the Panthers defeat Hudson’s Bay 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19 Thursday, at Hudson’s Bay High School.

This is the second league victory for Washougal this season, which is something the program has not be able to accomplish in a long time.

“I love the energy on the court and I love everybody screaming,” Watts said. “This year is so much better than last year, communication wise and energy wise. We just go together well.”

Washougal and Hudson’s Bay traded leads in the fourth set until the Panthers scored 10 points in a row. Maggie Hungerford delivered three aces and Watts added three kills during this surge.

“I love Maggie. She’s my opposite on the court,” Watts said. “She was just killing it out there.”

Washougal built 12-5 and 21-6 advantages in the first set. Hudson’s Bay rallied to within six points before losing the set on a serving violation.

The second set remained close until the Panthers scored 10 straight points. Boylan had three kills and two aces. Rylee Erdwins and Hungerford also scored points.

Washougal (3-3, 2-3) plays at Mark Morris tonight and hosts R.A. Long Thursday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.

Hockinson (Oct. 20), Hudson’s Bay (Oct. 27) and Mark Morris (Oct. 29) come to Washougal for the final three games of the season.

“I’m always going to remember this team. This has definitely been my favorite year,” Watts said. “It’s a great way to end my high school career.”
