A Washougal woman was driving the vehicle that hit and killed a bicyclist in Portland on Friday.

According to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau, just after 3 p.m. Mary E. Dieter, 64, was driving a blue 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastbound on Mount Scott Boulevard and was moving to turn left onto 112th Avenue as westbound traffic had stopped to allow her to turn.

Karla K. DeBaillie, 49, of Happy Valley, Oregon, was riding a bicycle between 30 to 35 mph northbound on Mount Scott Boulevard. As Dieter crossed over the westbound lane of Mount Scott Boulevard, DeBaillie crashed into the passenger side of the pickup.

DeBaillie was transported to a Portland hospital, and later died from her traumatic injuries.

Dieter cooperated with investigators and did not display any signs of impairment or distracted driving.

Investigation of the crash continues. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Multnomah County district attorney’s office for review.

According to the press release, this was the 27th traffic fatality in Portland in 2016.
