Hungry for sweets

A business that participates in the Downtown Camas Association’s First Friday activities and the Camas Farmer’s Market now has a storefront.

Jenny and David Easley recently opened The Hungrys Bakery, at 333 N.E. Lechner St., Camas.

Cupcakes, cookies and pies are made in the Easley’s home kitchen in Camas, and then brought to the bakery.

Cookie options include sugar, ginger and chocolate chip, while cupcakes are available in lemon, carrot, red velvet and other flavors. Cinnamon rolls, brownies and pies, as well as hot, buttered and cinnamon sugar pretzels, are also available. There are vegan, sugar-free and gluten-free options.

Beverages include coffee, hot cocoa, soda and apple and orange juice.

Jenny started baking cakes for family and friends nine years ago, and David encouraged her to bake full time.

Three years ago, they were eating takeout food from a Chinese restaurant, and Jenny thought of delivering desserts. That night, they applied for a Washington State business license and food handlers cards.

Since then, the Easleys have also successfully completed a Department of Agriculture food allergy workshop.

“She bakes, and I handle the e-mails and paperwork and such,” David said.

The bakery has two tables with seating for customers.

Friends have painted the interior of the bakery and provided custom made display cases.

“We’ve received an outpouring of people who have offered to help,” Jenny said. “Pretty much the whole community has come together for this.”

Paintings — oils and acrylics — by Anna Norris, are available to view and purchase at the bakery.

The Easleys have three children.

“When I was pregnant with the kids, I used to text David when I had cravings for sweets and say ‘I have the hungrys, get me something,'” Jenny said. “That’s how the name came about, and it kind of stuck.”

Baked goods can be pre-ordered. Some of The Hungrys’ customers place orders from out-of-state to have cookies and cupcakes delivered to local homes and offices for birthdays and other special occasions.

The Hungrys Bakery is open Tuesday through Friday, from 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 448-8542, email or visit
