Local soccer teams reach regional quarterfinals

Two teams with Camas connections made it to the quarterfinal round of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships, in Boise, Idaho.

The Washington Timbers 01 Red defeated the Rock Springs, Wyoming, Avengers 6-1 Wednesday to advance out of pool play and into the U-14 girls championship bracket. The Timbers scored six goals in a row after the Avengers were up 1-0. Olivia Fothergill scored three goals for the Timbers and Chole Harris netted two. Bianca Andrade added the other goal.

The USA Stars 02 team, from El Dorado, California, defeated the Timbers 1-0 in the quarterfinals Friday.

The Timbers and a team from the Las Vegas Premier Academy played to a 1-1 stalemate June 21. Fothergill delivered the tying goal for the Timbers in the 68th minute.

Washington beat the Missola, Montana, Strikers 3-0 June 30. Taylor Hope got the Timbers on the board in the 10th minute. Fothergill knocked in the other two goals.

Playing for the Timbers are Andrade, Anita Carlson, Kylie Ellett, Fothergill, Aanya Friedeman, Harris, Hope, Adriana Leon, Margaret McBroom, Elizabeth Parker, Brissa Rodriguez, Alexis Sadler, Anna Sanchez, Holly Schmitz, Emily Vera and Darien Walton. Cliff Samodurov coaches the team.

After losing in the first round of pool play, the Football Club Salmon Creek Nemesis 98 girls soccer team won two games in a row to get to the U-17 quarterfinals. La Rocha, of Layton, Utah, beat Nemesis 98 3-0 in that game Friday.

Salmon Creek defeated Ahwatukee 99 White, of Phoenix, 3-1 Wednesday. Marley LeFore netted a corner kick by Hannah Taie in the 19th minute to give the Nemesis a 1-0 advantage. Ahwatukee tied the score with a goal in the 25th minute. The Nemesis reclaimed the lead on a goal by Angelina Krawczyk in the 66th minute. Sabine Postma cashed in an insurance goal for Salmon Creek in the 87th minute.

Salmon Creek shut down a team from the Las Vegas Premier Academy 2-0 June 21. Aimee Kurfust scored both goals.

Playing for the Nemesis are Katherine Anthony, Ashley Carter, Madison Early, Ellie Echeverio, Kierstyn Heilbrum, Ellie Johnson, Krawczyk, Kurfust, LeFore, Sabine Postma, Megan Sawyer, Erin Siegel, Taie, Julie Williams, Mikaela Winston and Morgan Winston. Dan Macaya and Feike Postma coach the team.

By winning the Northwest Champions League in U.S. Club Soccer, Nemesis 98 gets the opportunity to play in the National Premier League Finals July 14 to 18, in Aurora, Colorado.
